Services
Rehabilitation Hospitals We take great pride in our commitment to total patient care, professionalism and respect, provided throughout the rehabilitation process, helping us restore, as fully as possible, the skills, confidence, and independence our patients need to return to a quality, satisfying life.
Transitional Care Units Whittier’s Transitional Care Units offer short-term rehabilitative care for patients who need additional time to transition to home safely after their hospital stay.
Physical Therapy Physical therapists have a wide range of modalities in their toolboxes to meet various patient needs. Exercise and strengthening programs are individualized to challenge patients, starting at the most basic level and progressing in complexity as patients gain strength, endurance, and function throughout their stay.
Aquatic Therapy We offer Aquatic Therapy in two custom-designed warm-water therapeutic pools. Our licensed physical and occupational therapists, trained in aquatic rehabilitation, provide individualized treatment programs and guided exercise instruction. This service supports rehabilitation in a safe environment. Aquatic therapy helps improve mobility, strength, and flexibility while being integrated into short-term or outpatient care.
IRF Rehabilitation Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Facilities (IRFs) at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospitals deliver intensive rehabilitation for individuals needing advanced recovery care. We focus on improving activities of daily living and functional mobility to support greater independence. Our interdisciplinary team coordinates care to ensure safe discharge to home and community. Patients receive structured therapy aimed at restoring function and enhancing independence.
Long-Term Acute Care LTAC patients are transferred from acute care hospitals where stays are generally short. They present with complex acute and chronic medical needs requiring extended treatment and oversight. Our services address conditions that cannot be promptly managed in other care environments. We provide coordinated rehabilitation to support recovery and progression toward discharge and less intensive care settings.
Outpatient Rehabilitation Services Our rehabilitation staff includes physiatrists, physical therapists, speech-language therapists, respiratory therapists, and occupational therapists working together to deliver outpatient care. We offer one-on-one therapy, flexible scheduling, and prompt evaluations to support recovery. Our hospitals feature expansive gyms and therapeutic pools equipped with advanced technology. We also provide real-world training environments and specialized equipment including the AlterG treadmill.
Prosthetics & Orthotics Our Prosthetics & Orthotics services are provided in collaboration with Cornell Orthotics & Prosthetics, offering individualized evaluations and customized solutions for artificial limbs and orthopedic bracing. Patients with amputations attend weekly clinics to support mobility restoration. Care delivered across Bradford and Westborough is coordinated through integrated referrals and a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, therapists, and physicians.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation We provide pulmonary rehabilitation at accredited acute rehabilitation hospitals within Whittier Health Network. Bradford serves greater Boston and Merrimack Valley; Westborough serves central Massachusetts lung disorder patients. The program improves functional capacity and quality of life for people with lung disorders conditions. Our clinicians coordinate with pulmonologists to ensure evidence-based care, including structured therapy, supervised exercise, education, support, and behavioral intervention services.

My father was sent to Whittier after quite a lengthy stay in the hospital from . We honestly didnt know what to expect and we all were so impressed with the care and compassion he received from everyone there. He was excited to get back up and moving and on the path to rehabilitation, and everything and everyone there was phenomenal. He is home now and cannot say enough about how thrilled he was with the care received, and neither can we. I would 100% trust my loved ones in their care .

I was happy that when I called about a concern I had with my right knee replacement that I got an appointment the very next day. I was happy that the 3 out of 4 staff members that I saw were staff that I had almost 3 years ago. I was really glad that l had the same PA. After our conversation, he gave me the confidence I needed that I had no problem happening with that knee. I can always trust Whittier Rehab Hospital for my needs. Thank You again!!

Outstanding in every way. Our son was there for a month and the tremendous staff at Whittier got him from bedridden to safely mobile. The place is spotless, the food was excellent, and the overall experience was great. If you or a loved one must have rehab, this is the place!

My 91 year old mother spent two weeks at Whittier after having surgery for an obstructed bowel. She got excellent care from the nursing staff regarding her incision, physical and occupational therapy that helped her get stronger and manage her own care too! She is now home and feeling better every day!

Whittier Rehab has been such a positive force in my brother Toms recovery post brain surgery. The gains my brother has been able to achieve are because of the dedication and attention they poured into him! All of the therapists: Occupational, Physical, and Speech are all caring and patient individuals who truly care about their patients safety and progress, we are so thankful to them all! Drs Breen and Ligouri have been instrumental in getting Tom the correct therapy and management to keep him moving forward in his ongoing recovery. They truly are amazing physicians who care for each of their patients. Jolene and Paula are two of the finest, caring nurses we have ever encountered, and it is such a pleasure to see them and work with them. We are a Whittier family for life!

My experience starting with the check in was great, the very pleasant young lady that took all my info was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Daniel Lococo NP explained the results of my knee X-rays, he even did an exam of my knee. Some others I have seen never examined my knee, I highly recommend Whittier! My follow up appointment was on time, and again Daniel Lococo was great. Thanks 😊.

Whittier rehab is very respectable. I know some of the doctors, some of the people from rehab. My experience was awesome. I liked all of the people that helped me. They were very knowledgeable, very respectable. And Whittier rehab is the only rehab that I will ever go to because Whittier rehab is the best there is, best there was, and best there ever will be. Thank you for helping me with my issues especially the wound care unit. They know their stuff. Thank you.

I understand healthcare because it's been my life's endeavor. Whittier's rehabilitation facility was selected for my restoration, of a complex fractured hip, because it was geographically located near my daughter's home. My preference would have been to be closer to my own home in Winchester. My daughter's choice, however, proved to be a God's send for my rehabilitation.

Here is my testimonial: "It is not the physical structure of a healthcare facility that is the most important factor to be considered when dealing with people who are in immediate need of rehabilitation. No, it is, without doubt, the healthcare professionals who have dedicated their careers to help others get well. Those professional, including executives, doctors, registered nurses, CNAs, physical and occupational therapist, students as well as custodial workers all played a major role in helping me get home to my surroundings where my rehabilitation will be continued." Thank you Lisa, my daughter who selected Whittier for my care, and special thanks to the dedicated caregivers who fulfilled their mission to care for patients with love and devotion. Bob Crisafi, Ph.
